The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed frustration over the inability to arrest former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who is accused of embezzling N80.2 billion. During a visit to the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Asaba, the EFCC’s acting Zonal Director for the Benin Zonal Command, Effa Okim, highlighted the ex-governor’s evasion of justice.
Despite being declared wanted and placed on a watchlist by Nigerian Immigration, Bello has not appeared in court. Okim blamed the system for shielding Bello, stating that his continuous evasion undermines Nigeria’s justice system.

Okim called out political and societal leaders for failing to compel Bello to face the allegations. He emphasized the moral failure in not holding Bello accountable and criticized those who still support the former governor. Okim urged the media to take a united stance against Bello’s actions to restore the integrity of the justice system.
NUJ Delta State Council Chairman, Churchill Oyowe, assured the EFCC of the support of journalists in the state to uphold justice and transparency.
