Tinubu Lightens Mood After Democracy Day Mishap

Tinubu Embraces Mishap with Humor at Democracy Day Dinner

President Bola Tinubu, speaking at a Democracy Day dinner in the Presidential Villa, turned an awkward moment into a humorous tribute to democracy and his Yoruba heritage. Earlier in the day, Tinubu’s stumble while climbing the parade vehicle at Eagle Square had gone viral on social media.

Addressing the incident, Tinubu quipped, “Earlier this morning, I had a swagger, and it was on social media. They were confused about whether I was doing Buga or Babaringa.” He went on to describe his fall as a prostration, in the Yoruba tradition of “dobale,” a gesture of respect.

“Dobale,” which translates to prostration, is a traditional way of greeting elders in Yoruba culture.

Tinubu’s humorous take on the mishap came amidst earlier reassurances from his media aides that the fall was minor and that he was unharmed. Despite triggering reactions from Nigerians, including political rivals like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, Tinubu maintained a light-hearted approach, emphasizing the spirit of Democracy Day.

The incident, though briefly overshadowing the celebrations, was deftly turned into an occasion for laughter and reflection on the resilience of democracy.
