Marian Robinson, the mother of former US First Lady Michelle Obama, passed away at the age of 86, the family said in a statement on Friday, May 31. Marian Robinson apparently died away peacefully this morning, according to the statement given.
“She passed peacefully this morning, and right now, none of us are quite sure how exactly we’ll move on without her,” the family statement said.
Michelle and Barack Obama released the statement together with Craig Robinson and Kelly, as well as the grandkids of Marian Robinson: Aaron, Leslie, Malia, Sasha, Austin, and Avery. With the historic election of her son-in-law, Barack Obama, to the presidency in 2008, Marian Robinson became well-known across the country as the first-ever grandmother.
Despite maintaining a low profile, she became a familiar figure at the White House throughout his two terms in office, attending various events including holiday gatherings, occasional overseas trips, and concerts held in the East Room.
But she was most often seen with her granddaughters, Malia and Sasha. People all throughout the nation have shown their support and condolences in response to the news of her passing. There are currently no known details regarding memorial ceremonies or funeral plans.
