The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 19-year-old boy, allegedly beaten to death by his father.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday. According to Hundeyin, the Alagbado Police Division received a report on Tuesday regarding the alleged crime.
He detailed that around noon on July 5, Olumide, the boy’s father, struck his son, Adeyemi, with a shovel, inflicting a deep cut on the right side of his body. The reason for the attack was not disclosed.
Adeyemi sustained severe injuries from the impact and was immediately rushed to a local hospital for treatment. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the General Hospital in Ikeja. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, Adeyemi succumbed to a tetanus infection caused by the injury, as confirmed by the attending doctor.
Detectives from the division visited the scene of the incident. Currently, Olumide, the father, is at large, and the case remains under active investigation.
