
Celebrated Nollywood actor Charles Sanyaolu, widely known by his stage name Agbako, has died at the age of 101, leaving a lasting legacy in the Yoruba film industry.
The Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) President, Bolaji Amusan, announced Agbako’s passing via Instagram, stating, “TAMPAN Global announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO.” Details regarding the veteran actor’s funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Born in 1923, Agbako was a pioneer in Yoruba cinema, known for his intense portrayals of villains, warriors, and other formidable characters that captivated audiences for decades. His work in iconic Yoruba films, such as Ogbori Elemosho and Atorunmo, cemented his reputation as a foundational figure in the industry.
Beginning his career in stage theatre, Agbako transitioned seamlessly into film and television as the industry expanded, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in Yoruba films. His dedication and memorable roles have earned him a lasting place in Nollywood history, particularly within Yoruba cinema.
