I Told Atiku To Pick Peter Obi As Running Mate, Can’t Support Tinubu In 2027 – Reno Omokri

He vowed that he would never leave Atiku to support President Bola Tinubu in 2027 presidential election

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has said he played a pivotal role in the emergence of Peter Obi as the running mate to former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, in 2019.

Speaking during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye via his podcast, Mic On, Omokri said he recommended Obi’s name as running mate following a request from Atiku.

He stated that Obi knows the role he played in ensuring that he was picked as the vice presidential candidate, vowing that he would never leave Atiku to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Omokri has been in support of some of Tinubu’s economic recovery policies and has made scathing remarks about Obi on several occasions.

However, he said: “Peter Obi can’t deny that I was the one who recommended him to Waziri Atiku Abubakar when he asked me to help choose a running mate in 2019.

“I called former President Jonathan and he told me it’s Peter Obi, but I told him I just can’t submit one name. We padded the list with others while making Obi’s name look very rosy.

“Atiku chose Obi so after a man had done me just great honour, I will now turn around and be supporting his opponent in the next election?

“I can’t do that, if Atiku decide to contest in 2027 and get the PDP’s presidential candidate, I’m duty bound to support him.”

Omokri’s statement highlights the broader dynamics of power and influence within Nigerian politics. Behind every political decision and alliance lies a complex interplay of interests, relationships, and strategic calculations. Omokri’s assertion offers a glimpse into this world, where individuals with access to power wield influence that extends far beyond their official titles or positions.

Reno Omokri’s revelation regarding his role in the selection of Peter Obi as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election sheds light on the intricate dynamics of Nigerian politics. His assertion underscores the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that shapes political alliances and decisions, while also providing insight into his own future political trajectory. As Nigeria prepares for future electoral contests, the influence of figures like Omokri will continue to shape the course of its political landscape, reflecting the evolving nature of power and influence in the country’s democracy.
