In Kaduna State, gunmen have demanded a ransom of N20 million and two motorcycles for the release of Japheth Zarma Yakubu, a councillorship aspirant from Kurmin-Kare community in Kachia Local Government Area.
According to a source, the bandits’ leader made contact on Sunday at 11:45 a.m. using the victim’s phone, instructing the family to provide the ransom and motorcycles for Yakubu’s release.
The source also revealed that a relative of Yakubu is currently negotiating with the bandits in an effort to lower the ransom amount, citing the challenging economic conditions as a reason for the request.
Yakubu was kidnapped last Thursday while visiting his farm.
As of the latest update, ASP Hassan Mansur, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, had not yet commented on the situation.
