
The local government elections held across Enugu State on Saturday, September 21, marked a pivotal moment for Ezeagu as Dr. Vita Ndu, representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), secured a decisive victory with a commanding majority of votes. Observers lauded the election as one of the most credible and peaceful in recent years, crediting the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for its seamless organization.
The elections, which spanned 17 local governments and 260 political wards, commenced smoothly, with voting materials distributed from the ENSIEC headquarters in Aguobu Owa, the Ezeagu Local Government Council seat. Reports from several wards noted an atmosphere of orderliness and calm, with voters enthusiastically participating in the process.

In Olo Ward 1, at Obodo Ube, voters turned out in large numbers, casting their ballots in a peaceful environment. Similarly, Akama/Amankwo Ward—home to Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze of the PDP, representing Ezeagu in the Enugu State House of Assembly, and Barr. Sunday Umeha of the Labour Party, representing Udi/Ezeagu in the National Assembly—saw a high voter turnout. Residents overwhelmingly supported Dr. Ndu, reflecting their trust and admiration for him.
The strong support for the PDP extended to Imezi Ọwa Ward 2 and Umana Ndị Agu/Ndị Uno Ward, where voters voiced their appreciation for Governor Peter Mbah’s infrastructural investments by backing Dr. Ndu.
Independent observers rated the election as one of the most peaceful, free, and fair in recent years. They praised ENSIEC for upholding the integrity and transparency of the process, allowing voters to express their preferences without interference or intimidation.

The official results for the Ezeagu Local Government Chairmanship Election, announced by ENSIEC’s returning officer, were as follows:

With a commanding 25,653 votes, Dr. Vita Ndu of the PDP emerged as the clear winner, showcasing widespread support and confidence in his leadership within the Council.
