Gov Oyebanji Orders Hospitals To Treat Gunshot Victims Without Police Report

The commissioner pleaded with medical professionals, good samaritans, and supporters not to let their fear of being accused of anything stop them from helping gunshot victims.
In a statement released on Monday in Ado Ekiti under the heading “Approval of Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017,” Oyebanji issued the mandate.
Even in the absence of a police report, hospitals are required by the Ekiti State Government to treat gunshot victims at its facilities immediately.

The state’s commissioner of health, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, declared that the directive treated gunshot victims in compliance with Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s orders and strictly adhered to the requirements of the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act of 2017.

In a statement released on Monday in Ado Ekiti under the heading “Approval of Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017,” Oyebanji issued the mandate.

“Gunshot injuries are generally a medical emergency where minute counts in the fight to preserve the life of the victim. The victim requires urgent medical attention to avoid permanent damage or death,” he said.

The commissioner pleaded with medical professionals, good samaritans, and supporters not to let their fear of being accused of anything stop them from helping gunshot victims.

He gave assurances of government support and ongoing cooperation to all medical establishments in the state in order to improve the delivery of healthcare services.
