Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has seemingly shattered the Guinness world record by engaging in an uninterrupted cooking marathon lasting over 227 hours. Clad in her nation’s flag, Ms. Abdul-Razak concluded the remarkable feat with a heartfelt salute to the crowd, marking the end of this culinary endeavor on Wednesday in Tamale.
Describing the cooking marathon as a “national assignment” undertaken for the love of Ghana, Abdul-Razak garnered cheers from onlookers as she exited the hotel kitchen. Her dedicated team plans to submit the necessary evidence to Guinness World Records (GWR) for official validation of her record-breaking achievement. GWR acknowledged Abdul-Razak’s accomplishment on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “We look forward to reviewing her evidence!”
The existing record holder, Irishman Alan Fisher, previously held the title with a cooking duration of 119 hours and 57 minutes. Abdul-Razak expressed her determination to make it exceptionally challenging for anyone attempting to surpass her record in the future.
Support for the chef poured in from various quarters, including Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, several celebrities, and even the Ghanaian military. Their encouragement added to the atmosphere surrounding the cook-a-thon.
In comparison, the precedent for such culinary feats was set by Hilda Baci in Nigeria last year, generating considerable excitement. However, her record was later surpassed by Alan Fisher. Now, Failatu Abdul-Razak has taken the spotlight, awaiting official confirmation from Guinness World Records for her extraordinary accomplishment.
