The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahim Lamuwa, has been issued a query by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation following allegations of sexual harassment. Lamuwa, who previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Senegal with concurrent accreditation to Mauritania, faces accusations from Simisola Ajayi, a ministry employee.
Muhammed Ahmed, Deputy-Director of Communication at the OHCSF, confirmed the development on Wednesday in Abuja, stating, “Lamuwa was queried in accordance with the Civil Service rules and regulations.” The query aims to ensure a fair hearing, with Lamuwa’s response determining further actions.
Ahmed emphasized, “There will be an unhindered investigation into the alleged case of sexual harassment, following established civil service procedures.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, intervened after receiving a petition from Mrs. Ajayi through her Legal Counsel, Femi Falana. In an official letter to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, Tuggar requested OHCSF’s involvement in addressing the matter, noting its seriousness.
While the deadline for Lamuwa’s response remains unconfirmed, sources suggest he has been asked to step aside temporarily to prevent interference with the investigation process.
