The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has announced a significant infrastructure upgrade for 50 selected senior secondary schools across Nigeria. This move is part of the commission’s intervention efforts to improve educational facilities nationwide.
During the groundbreaking ceremony in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary of the commission, revealed that a comprehensive NEEDS assessment was conducted in the selected schools, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive for educational rehabilitation.
According to Dr. Ajayi, the upgrade will be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on these 50 schools and costing N47.5 billion. “This is just the beginning. Once we complete this phase, we will report to the President and the minister, and then move on to the next group of schools. Those not included in the first phase should be patient; their turn will come after this phase is completed,” Dr. Ajayi stated.
The commission was established in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to address the needs of senior secondary schools across the country.
The current intervention marks a significant step towards fulfilling that mandate, with the government aiming to enhance the learning environment for students through improved facilities.
