Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nkanu East Local Government Area, has been declared the winner of the local government elections after securing the highest number of votes.
In his victory speech, Hon. Edeh expressed gratitude to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for creating an environment conducive to democracy. He also thanked the people of Nkanu East for the trust and confidence they placed in him.
“I want to begin by thanking His Excellency, Governor Mbah, for fostering an atmosphere where democracy can flourish in Enugu State,” Edeh said. “I am deeply grateful to the electorate for entrusting me with this mandate. This victory is not just mine but a win for democracy itself.”
Hon. Edeh, who was addressing the media shortly after the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) announced his victory, dedicated the win to God. He praised the electoral body for conducting a free, fair, and transparent election, describing the process as peaceful and successful.
He attributed his party’s success at the polls to the impressive performance of Governor Mbah, adding that the PDP’s victory is a reflection of the governor’s exceptional leadership.
“I also want to commend the leadership of our great party, from the ward to the state level, and my campaign team for their unwavering dedication throughout this journey,” Edeh stated. “After two years in office, I am humbled that the people of Nkanu East still find our record of service compelling enough to give us their mandate.”
Hon. Edeh extended his appreciation to friends and supporters, both locally and globally, for their prayers, counsel, and encouragement during the campaign. He assured the people that his administration will align with Governor Mbah’s disruptive agenda, focusing on key areas such as the economy, security, education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
“We will provide a platform to achieve these goals through honesty, transparency, accountability, and courageous leadership,” he said. “Our people can expect significant socio-economic and infrastructural projects, and we will prioritize security to safeguard lives and property.”
Edeh also emphasized the importance of promoting urban-rural migration to boost economic activity and ensure equitable distribution of democratic dividends across all wards in Nkanu East. He pledged to complement Governor Mbah’s efforts in improving the welfare of the people.
