FG announces public holidays on Tuesday and Monday.

The Federal Government has declared Monday 17th, and Tuesday 18th June 2024 as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

A important Islamic holiday, Eid-el Kabir, also called the “Festival of Sacrifice,” honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. God ultimately supplied a ram in its place to be sacrificed. Muslims from throughout the world use this holiday as an opportunity to consider the values of religion, sacrifice, and compassion. Eid-el Kabir is observed in Nigeria through a variety of religious and cultural events. It starts with a special prayer service that is held in mosques and worship sites. An animal sacrifice ceremony is then performed, usually including a cow, goat, or ram. These sacrifices reinforce the values of charity and communal spirit by sharing the meat among friends, relatives, and the less fortunate.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration in a statement on Friday in Abuja on behalf of the Federal Government.

On this special occasion, the Minister congratulated the Muslim Ummah both at home and abroad. In addition to encouraging the Ummah to pray for harmony, prosperity, and the stability of our nation during this time, Tunji-Ojo advised them to continue imbibing the spirit of peace, kindness, and sacrifice that the Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him) personified.

“The Minister assured that the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians.

“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to our children”, the statement added.
