David Hundeyin Calls Police Wanted Declaration "Price for Truth-Telling"

David Hundeyin Decries Police Wanted Notice as "Price for Telling the Truth"

Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin has characterized his recent declaration as a wanted person by Nigerian authorities as a “price for telling the truth,” particularly when it is unpopular or politically sensitive.

Hundeyin made the comments during an interview on News Central TV, responding to reports that the Nigerian police are searching for him and his associate, Michael Temidayo Alade. The authorities allege that the two are involved in leaking classified documents, a violation of the Official Secrets Act. The police claim that Hundeyin and Alade are linked to Bristol Isaac, known as PIDOMNigeria on X, who was recently detained by the National Cybercrime Centre.

Despite the serious allegations, Hundeyin remained resolute and explained that his current predicament is part of a broader pattern of harassment. He revealed that he had previously faced attempts by the National Intelligence Agency to forcibly extradite him from abroad. Hundeyin recounted how he had to relocate from Ghana to Kenya, and subsequently to the UK, to escape these threats.

“This is part of the course and the price you pay when you choose to tell the truth, especially when it goes against the interests of those in power,” Hundeyin said. “I’ve faced similar threats before and have had to change countries multiple times. Telling the truth often comes at a high cost, particularly in environments where truth-telling is seen as a threat to the establishment.”
