The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has praised the ‘Peace in South-East Project’ (PISE-P), launched in Abia State on Friday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, RT. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu.
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) commends the ‘Peace in South-East Project’ (PISE-P) for its aim to restore peace and unity
MAN expresses gratitude to President Tinubu and Deputy Speaker Kalu for choosing non-kinetic measures to address South-East challenges
One of the distinguishing features of PISE-P is its emphasis on non-kinetic approaches. Instead of resorting to force, the initiative focuses on dialogue, community engagement, and addressing the root causes of tension. MAN lauds this approach as it aligns with the principles of sustainable conflict resolution, emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing the socio-economic factors contributing to unrest.
MAN acknowledges the vital link between peace and economic prosperity. In regions marked by unrest, industrial and commercial activities often suffer, impacting not only manufacturers but the broader economy. PISE-P’s commitment to restoring peace in the South-East directly contributes to creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, encouraging investment, and fostering economic growth.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu’s leadership in spearheading PISE-P has been pivotal. Their commitment to employing non-kinetic measures showcases a nuanced understanding of the complexities surrounding the challenges in the Southeast. MAN applauds their visionary approach and recognizes the importance of strong leadership in initiating transformative projects.
Another commendable aspect of PISE-P is its focus on community engagement and inclusivity. Recognizing the diverse stakeholders in the South-East, the initiative seeks to involve communities in the peace-building process. MAN acknowledges the importance of inclusive strategies that address the concerns and aspirations of all segments of society for a lasting and meaningful impact.
Initiated by the Deputy Speaker, PISE-P aims to restore peace, unity, reconciliation, and development to the Igbo-speaking people of Nigeria over a five-year period. President Tinubu, unveiling the project, emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to using available resources to establish peace in the South-East, acknowledging the region’s crucial role in the nation’s economic development.
In a press statement released on Sunday afternoon by Lady Ada Chukwudozie, Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, representing Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu zones of the South East, the association expressed gratitude for the PISE-P initiative. Lady Chukwudozie highlighted the economic challenges and security threats affecting the region and commended President Tinubu for choosing non-kinetic measures to address the challenges.
The statement also praised Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu for conceptualizing the initiative with the goal of making the South East the commercial hub of Nigeria. The Manufacturers Association called on other leaders in the region, including governors, ministers, senators, traditional rulers, clergymen, youth, and women leaders, to join the campaign for lasting peace.
Lady Chukwudozie urged collaboration in sensitizing the people of the South East and encouraged leaders to work towards wooing foreign investors. She emphasized the readiness of the Manufacturers to provide guidance and support in positioning the South East in the global economy.
While commending President Tinubu, Lady Chukwudozie also urged deeper conversations with Deputy Speaker Kalu, governors, Ohaneze Nd’Igbo, and other critical stakeholders from the South East to gain further insights into achieving lasting peace in the region.
