The Nigerian Police Force has declared a British national, Andrew Wynne—also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey—wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s democratically elected government.
Speaking to journalists at the police headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the force’s public relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development. According to Mr. Adejobi, the Briton is accused of conspiring with foreign mercenaries and subversive elements to destabilize Nigeria through unconstitutional means, including orchestrating violence across the country.
The police allege that Wynne rented a space at Labour House in Abuja under the guise of operating an ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and establishing ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ to conceal his subversive activities.
“Following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects have been apprehended. These individuals reportedly received significant financial support from foreign sources to destabilize the country,” Mr. Adejobi stated. He further alleged that the group orchestrated and funded violent protests, spread false information, and engaged in other illegal activities to create chaos and justify their plot to overthrow the government.
This declaration follows the recent re-invitation of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero by the police in connection with Wynne, who was a tenant at Labour House, Abuja.
