A group of minors recently released by the Nigerian government for their involvement in the nationwide “End Bad Governance” protests have arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The minors are scheduled for a brief meeting with government officials to mark the formal end of legal proceedings against them.
The release comes after the Federal Government officially dropped treason charges initially brought against the minors for participating in the protest, which swept across the country demanding governance reforms.
A source close to the presidency confirmed that Kano and Kaduna State governors are already at the Villa to receive the youths. After the meeting, they will personally oversee their return to their families.
The session is expected to start at 2 p.m. in the State House Auditorium. Following President Bola Tinubu’s directive on Monday, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, officially took over the case file on Tuesday morning and informed the Federal High Court in Abuja of the government’s decision to withdraw all charges against the young protesters.
