"Kano State Assembly Approves Creation of Second-Class Emirates Amid Emirship Dispute

The Kano State House of Assembly has officially approved a bill to create second-class Emirates within the state. This decision comes after the bill underwent its first reading before the Assembly went on recess, and was resumed yesterday.

During today’s plenary session chaired by Speaker Jibril Falgore, the bill underwent its second and third readings. Deputy Speaker Muhammad Butubutu moved for its adoption and passage.

The newly established second-class emirates will include:

  • Rano Emirate: Rano-Bunkure, Kibiya
  • Karaye Emirate: Karaye-Rogo
  • Gaya Emirate: Gaya-Ajingi, Albasu

This development follows a longstanding Emirship dispute involving Emir Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero over the past two years.
