The Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Police Force reported on Monday the successful neutralization of two members of a gang responsible for the tragic killing of two officers on Thursday, December 29, 2023.
On that day, assailants, reportedly donning military attire, ambushed a convoy accompanying Chief Chris Uba, a prominent figure in Anambra State’s political landscape, at Uga junction in the Aguata Council area.

The convoy vehicles were heavily targeted, resulting in the loss of two police operatives linked to the politician.
Reports indicate that Mr. Val Ozigbo, a chieftain of the Labour Party, narrowly evaded the attack by allowing Uba’s convoy to pass ahead before reaching Uga junction.
In a series of violent incidents, the gunmen also struck Amesi Community within the same Aguata Council area, where they killed a vigilante named Chigbo Onuegbu (Akawo) and abducted another individual.
Addressing the media in the state, Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye disclosed that two of the assailants were neutralized during a successful raid on their camp situated in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area, conducted on Sunday. Additionally, a 51-year-old woman abducted by the gunmen was successfully rescued during this operation.
“A Lexus SUV, four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two Pump Action guns and 16 live cartridges,” he said were recovered, adding that the IEDs had been defused.
Adeoye said that a manhunt for the assailants and every criminal element in the state would continue.
He reassured the residents of Anambra state of the determination of his Command to ensure the security of all during the festivity celebration.
