Anambra Police Arrest Arms Dealer, Recover Weapons in Successful Operation

The Anambra State Police Command reported the interception of a gun-running syndicate, leading to the arrest of a significant arms dealer involved in the prohibited firearms trade within the state.

According to a statement released by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the operation was the result of meticulous surveillance carried out by the command’s operatives. This concerted effort aimed at dismantling the network of individuals involved in the illicit arms trade, ensuring the safety and security of the residents of Anambra.

The arrested arms dealer, whose identity has not been disclosed at this time, played a significant role in the proliferation of prohibited firearms within the state. He said, “The police in Anambra State have arrested a major arms dealer dealing illegally in prohibited firearms in the state.

“The breakthrough followed weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the command.

“A total of 21 automatic and 625 live cartridges were recovered.

“So far, three suspects have been arrested in Onitsha while the investigation is being expanded.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has commended the operatives involved in the operation on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who guided the operation.”
