AFCON 2023: Why Angola Won’t Be an Easy Opponent — Peseiro's Warning after Super Eagles' Victory Over Cameroon

We know Angola’s match is going to be tougher Coach Peseiro says

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has warned his players they must keep their feet on the ground despite the hard-earned victory over Cameroon.

The three-time champions defeated the Indomitable Lions 2-0 in a thrilling contest at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Saturday night.

Atalanta winger, Ademola Lookman scored both goals for the West Africans.

Lookman opened scoring for the Super Eagles nine minutes before the break after he has teed up by the hardworking Victor Osimhen.

The 26-year-old then netted the second on the dot of 90 minutes.

As the focus shifts towards the upcoming clash with Angola, Peseiro recognizes the challenges posed by this opponent. Angola, a team with its own strengths and ambitions, cannot be underestimated. Peseiro acknowledges that every team in AFCON 2023 is vying for success, and Angola is no exception.

To dissect why Angola won’t be an easy opponent, it’s essential to analyze their style of play, strategies, and key players. Peseiro and his coaching staff are undoubtedly studying the strengths and weaknesses of the Angolan team, devising a game plan that capitalizes on the Super Eagles’ strengths while mitigating any potential threats from Angola.

Success in football is not only about individual brilliance but also about how well a team functions as a unit. Angola has likely been working on their team dynamics and cohesion, aiming to exploit any vulnerabilities in the Super Eagles’ defense. Peseiro must ensure that his squad remains cohesive and disciplined on the field to counteract Angola’s strategies effectively.

The history and rivalry between two teams often play a significant role in the outcome of a match. While the Super Eagles may have a more illustrious history, Angola’s determination to make a mark in AFCON 2023 could elevate their performance. Peseiro needs to instill a sense of respect for the opponent while maintaining the confidence gained from the victory against Cameroon.

The Super Eagles will now face Angola in the quarter-final next week.

The Palancas Negras thrashed Namibia 3-0 to earn a place in the last eight.

“We will now focus on our next match against Angola, which is having an excellent tournament,”the Portuguese told the media at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.

“We must take this opponent seriously, so we will continue to sleep early and eat pasta (laughs). Jokes aside, all the teams at this stage are capable of winning the tournament.”
