The latest news in Nigeria today has it that some Gunmen attacked the Imo State, Nigeria Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarter.
According to reports, the attack started around 3:00A.M Nigerian time. The gunmen threw bombs on the roof of the INEC building, but their efforts to bring down the building were repelled by the Nigerian Police Imo State command guarding the premises.
The Police spokesperson in Imo State, Michael Abattam who narrated the ugly incident to newsmen stated that the gunmen started attacking the building by 3am, they threw locally made bombs on the roof of the building, but were repelled by their men who were safeguarding the place.
He further narrated that 3 of the Gunmen were killed in the gun duel which lasted about an hour, one policeman was also killed while one sustained an injury during the attack.
According to Abattam “while our men guarding the building engaged the hoodlums who came in five vehicles. We reinforced. Noticing that we were stronger, they ran away, abandoning one of their vehicles. We gave them a hot chase towards the Onitsha Road. Fortunately for us, we neutralized three of them.

Others escaped with bullet wound injuries. Unfortunately, one of our men paid the supreme price, another one was injured”, he said.
The Nigerian Police recovered two vehicles, five rifles, charms, locally made explosives, phones and money and other exhibits.
