President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen on winning the CAF 2023 Men’s Player of the Year award.
The President also celebrated the remarkable achievements of Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who clinched the 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year for the sixth time, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, who was awarded the Woman Goalkeeper of the Year, as well as the Super Falcons for emerging as the Women’s National Team of the Year.
The recognition of Oshoala goes beyond individual accolades; it underscores the growth and development of women’s football in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. President Tinubu highlighted the importance of empowering and supporting female athletes, noting that Oshoala’s success serves as an inspiration for young girls with dreams of making their mark in the world of football.
President Tinubu’s commendations extended to Chiamaka Nnadozie, the emerging goalkeeping star whose remarkable performances did not go unnoticed. Nnadozie was named the CAF 2023 Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, a testament to her skill, agility, and crucial saves on the field. The President recognized Nnadozie’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s women’s football, emphasizing the importance of solid goalkeeping in achieving success at the highest levels of the sport.
Tinubu emphasized the need for continued investment and support in the development of goalkeeping talent, as goalkeepers play a crucial role in shaping the outcomes of matches. Nnadozie’s recognition is not only a personal triumph but also a reflection of the collective strength of Nigerian football.
Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Tinubu commended the trio of Osimhen, Oshoala, and Nnadozie for their outstanding performances on national and international stages, for being sources of pride to the nation, and for inspiring aspiring footballers across the continent.
