The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 10-year-old boy, whose identity has been withheld, for allegedly strangling his 10-year-old peer to death during a football match.
Confirming the arrest, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, informed journalists of the incident on Sunday.
According to Mr. Hundeyin, the Ejigbo Police Division received the distressing report on Friday around 6:20 p.m. The father of the deceased, Israel Ogunleye, 10, notified the police that his son was playing football with other boys on Oluwole Street, Powerline, Ejigbo, near his mother’s shop.
The father recounted that an argument ensued between his son and another 10-year-old boy, whose identity is being withheld. Allegedly, the 10-year-old suspect then proceeded to strangle Israel, resulting in his tragic death.
Following the report, a team of detectives visited the scene, collected evidence, and photographed the area along with the deceased’s body. The body was subsequently transferred to the General Hospital, Isolo, where a medical practitioner confirmed the unfortunate demise.
The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
